For those upgrading to a new television or a television service such as digital Freeview or satellite television it can be an exciting time. No doubt you just want to unpack your new equipment and set it up as quickly as possible to you up running. However there can be unseen dangers when doing things the wrong way, especially when it comes to electronic devices in the home. From TV wall mounting to antenna installation, here is a quick guide on how to avoid the dangers and have a trouble-free installation. One of the first things you should be doing when installing an antenna is checking the quality and type of the bracket the antenna is fixed to. If you are using the existing antenna and simply want to connect the new digital antenna to it, check it for damage and wear and see if you need to repair it. There is a lot of wasted time and money in installing a new antenna only for the old bracket to end up being faulty.

Use safety precautions at all times when on the roof

It is very important to note that you should be using good ladder safety throughout your installation and have all of the required safety equipment whilst you are doing your work. Use rechargeable drills and power tools if necessary. As wires and leads spread over multiple levels and out of windows whilst working up a ladder is just asking for trouble.

If you are in any doubt whatsoever about your antenna installation abilities, don’t hesitate to call a professional and have them assess the situation. You could end up saving money on repairs and replacement parts if you end up making a mistake, so seek professional advice the instant you feel out of your depth.

When it comes to wall mounting your TV, there are numerous things to think about before you attempt to do so. It isn’t just a case of screwing the holes on the back of the television to the wall, there are also hidden dangers when it comes to the electronic cables hidden behind your walls.

Hidden electric cables within the walls

You can purchase power cable detectors at your local electronics shop that will allow you to detect if the wall you want to drill through it holding any cables so you are sure to be safe before you drill. When you set out to wall mount a TV, check that firstly your television is compatible for wall mounting. You will see it noted in the manual for your television and will be evident by the placement of multiple screw holes mounted to a metal plate behind your television.

You will need to purchase a special TV wall mount for the model of your television, so that the weight of the television is taken into account. Don’t just simply buy any old mounting bracket, as you could lose your television, or your wall, in the process!

Choosing the right type of wall

Another important part or the process to think about is the type of wall you wish to mount your television to. You should always mount your television to a strong and sturdy wall, especially if your television is large and heavy. Televisions, or anything heavy should never be mounted on plasterboard walls, unless they are positioned so that the attachment bracket can be drilled into the joists within the wall.

Alternatively, there are specialist screws and wall plugs that can be attached to plasterboard to give a secure hold, but again, plasterboard cannot support heavy weights such as extremely large televisions. If you are in any doubt about your wall surfaces, a local TV wall mount specialist will be able to guide you in the right direction

However you decide to mount your television, you can take advantage of one of the cleanest setups and the best views for your particular television room. TV wall mounts are a great addition for anyone looking to create a home theatre setup and allow you to relax in style and watch your favourite movies with added comfort and minimal clutter!
